Develop Your Ideas

Develop your business ideas

Developing your business idea into a viable product or service is a critical part of building a business.

Is my idea good enough?

Generating a new idea is often the impetus for starting up a business. Many entrepreneurs spot a gap in the market and start businesses that provide a product or service that they couldn’t find while others come up with ways to improve an existing product.

If you are determined to start a business but don't yet have a product or service to sell, there are many ways to go about identifying one.

Once you've got a good business idea, take time to refine it. This will help you develop your ideas and provides a better foundation for converting them into successful businesses.

Methods of refining a business idea.

  •   look at whether your skills could be used to develop a business idea
  •   conduct market research to discover whether your idea fills a gap in the market
  •   brainstorm your idea with colleagues or staff - they can give you different perspectives on the idea and may know if anyone in your industry is doing the same thing
  •   use card/post-it systems to develop an idea - write down the initial idea on a piece of paper and pass this round to colleagues or staff who can add to it or question the idea
  •   knowledge trees provide a visual way of thinking about possible market opportunities
  •   keep up to date with the current events to help you identify new trends and new products being launched
  •   think about whether your idea serves a need created by new technologies
  •   consider whether social trends will boost or cut demand for your product
